Aboriginal Youth Leadership Development 2012
This project offers Aboriginal youth a significant, positive impact in their lives to move forward in a number of realms including personal, educational, career, family, leadership and entrepreneurial. The core program is based in the teachings of the Medicine Wheel and lays the foundation for the process of transformational change. These teachings reflect Aboriginal wisdom and traditions. Participants commit to working with a coach/mentor who is an appropriate role model over a 3-month to one year period to move towards achieving their goals. AYLDP has run annually since 2008 with two programs running in 2012.
Aunties & Uncles Lead By Example 2012
This is a mentoring project for Aboriginal youth. The Aunties & Uncles Lead by Example project will pair nieces with aunties and nephews with uncles to engage in a cultural journey of guidance and traditional teachings. The project will provide culturally relevant activities including sweat lodge participation, teachings of the Medicine Wheel as well as practical information on goal setting, healthy decision-making and financial guidance. In addition, youth aged 10 to 24 will have the opportunity to participate in one-on-one mentoring with elders and/or community leaders. This project will provide youth with culturally significant guidance and support, resulting in youth becoming more aware of how positive lifestyle choices and decisions can influence a stronger and healthier future. The next workshop is "Making Lemonade." We've all heard the expression "...when life gives you lemons - make lemonade!" As a youth participant you will learn how you can turn difficult situations into meaningful and positive experiences. Come out and join us.

Crossroads 2012
Is a two-day activity where young, urban aboriginal women will spend time with women of influence from the aboriginal and non-aboriginal community. This cultural exchange event will include women from the Somali community. Female Elders and Cultural Teachers will deliver the content. We will participate in various Aboriginal teachings as well as Somali practices. The learning over the two days would be transformational for each participant and reinforce a sense of pride in our culture. Additionally, when the participants return to their families, work and communities they will become "champions" for increased understanding and change. Later in the year there will be a follow-up gathering where the participants come back together as a means to strengthening the relationships they have made at the Crossroads.
Spadacious Day 2012 will be held on December 1, 2012. Save the Date as more to come.
