CREE SYLLABICS PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

The Cree Syllabics Program was delivered in 2012-2013. The classes were prepared and delivered by a Cree instructor with the support of a community Elder with previous knowledge of the Cree Language. 

OBJECTIVES

The Cree Syllabics Program’s objective were to:

  1. Contribute to the continuance and preservation of the Cree Nation in Alberta through the epistemological connection between the Cree Syllabics, the Cree language and Indigenous philosophies; and
  2. Acquire the capacity to read and write the Cree language in both Roman orthography and Cree syllabics.

ACTVITIES

The Cree Syllabics Program provided content to reflect the participant improvement related to their capacity to read and write the Cree language in both Roman orthography and in Cree syllabics, using a variety of resources to be used such as dictionaries and workbooks and online websites.
