Board of Directors
Tamara McDonald, Youth Director
Tansi! I am honoured to be a new board member with the AWPA. I've been a volunteer and also an occasional employee with the organization since I completed a university course community placement in January 2009 and I have really enjoyed every event and experience I've had so far!
A bit about me: I'm a recent graduate of the University of Alberta Native Studies program, with a minor in Political Studies and a certificate in Aboriginal Governance. I work at CBC Edmonton as an Executive Assistant to the Managing Director for Alberta region, and I love what I do!
Now that I'm in this environment I'm also considering a career in broadcasting, I have learned so much during my time here. My goal for being the Youth Director on the AWPA board is to recruit a new generation of women to be involved in their community, and be more proactive in their lives. I'm committed to changing the perception and negative statistics surrounding urban Aboriginal populations, and will strive for change. Aboriginal women are so powerful; it is time to recognize our place in shaping society; for ourselves and future generations.
Ay-ay, Tamara McDonald
